Transfusion Care
The Arun Kumar Day Care Transfusion
Centre provides day care transfusions and other related services
to patients with thallasaemia, haemophilia and other haematological
disorders. Whole blood and blood components such as red blood
cells, plasma, platelets, and cryoprecipatitated AHF (antihemophilic
factor) are given to people coming from Karnataka, and its neighbouring
states.
Blood component therapy is a focus
because each component can be transfused to different individuals
with different needs, and so each donation can be used to help
save as many as three lives. About 120 - 150 transfusions are given
in a month.
The Centre handles many people
ill with thalassemia, aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndrome,
or chronic leukemia who have to undergo repeated transfusions.
Blood and blood components are available at subsidised rates for
poor patients.
Stringent screening and rigorous
Quality Control systems assures that every person receiving a
transfusion can count on the blood safe and free of disease. |
