Research
The Institute conducts research
in the areas of blood safety, risk behaviour studies among youth,
and is part of the nationwide, ICMR-funded research and preventive
awareness programme on thallasaemia.
A research project on the risk factors
for Transfusion Transmissible Viral Infections (TTVI), seroprevalence
and incidence in blood donors in India, and impact of risk factor
exclusion strategies on blood safety is in progress. The project
is in collaboration with Blood Centres of the Pacific, University
College of San Francisco, Sao Paolo Blood Bank, Brazil, NIMHANS
Blood Bank, Bangalore, Victoria Hospital Blood Bank, Bangalore,
and Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society.
Another research project on the
association of HLA and Tuberculosis in HIV positive patients is
being conducted in collaboration with Dr Kondaiah, IISc, Dr V
Ravi, NIMHANS, Dr P Satishchandra, NIMHANS, and Dr KS Satish,
SEVA CLINIC.
